Student Kudos! Maria Hindt

Maria Hindt, Ph.D. student in the Molecular and Cell Biology Graduate Program, has been awarded a Graduate Alumni Research Award for her work on iron acquisition and storage in plants.  Her work in the Prof. Mary Lou Guerinot's lab focuses on increasing the ability of plants to take up iron.  Iron is an essential micronutrient in the human diet. Student and Faculty Kudos! Serena Lui '14, Danny Wong '14 and Prof. Elizabeth Smith Inducted into Phi Beta Kappa

Biology majors, Serena Lui '14 and Danny Wong '14, were two of twenty three members of the Class of 2014 who were inducted as junior members into Phi Beta Kappa. This honor was given to the Class of 2014 students with the highest culmulative grade point averages.

Professor Elizabeth Smith, Chair of the Department of Biological Sciences, was also inducted into Phi Beta Kappa.

Student Kudos! Summer Research Experiences: Marine Biology in Woods Hole

Andrew Bridges and Molly McQuilken are Ph.D. students in the Molecular and Cell Biology Graduate Program and as members of the Gladfelter Lab, they spent the summer doing research at the Marine Biological Lab (MBL) in Woods Hole.  The Gladfelter Lab studies cell organization, cell division cycles and septin cytoskeleton assembly and function.  Each year members of the lab travel to MBL to work with collaborators as Molly describes the experience "fully immerse ourselves in science. We live with scientists, eat with scientists, and socialize with scientists. The rewards of such an experience are immense.”  Full story.
