Much of my research has been in the area of bacterial pathogenesis as well as clinical and public health microbiology. Special focus has been on diagnosis and antimicrobial therapy of infections in compromised hosts, such as patients with cystic fibrosis, AIDS, and cancer. Additional research areas include the biochemical and toxicological aspects of heme and chlorophyll biosynthesis in humans, bacteria, and plants.
