Edward Michael Berger

Professor Emeritus of Biological Sciences

I am a Developmental Geneticist who has been interested in understanding the process of insect metamorphosis. We use genetics and molecular biology to learn how a caterpillar turns into a butterfly. The fruit fly Drosophila serves as our model organism.  I have taught Dartmouth undergraduate and graduate students Genetics for more than 38 years and continue to marvel at the extraordinary quality of the students in my classes.
