Professor Lee Witters has been honored with the creation of the Lee A. Witters Award for Outstanding Teaching and Social Justice. This award was created in recognition for Professor Witter's years of service as an educator and mentor to pre-health students. Dr. Tim Lahey, Faculty Director of Dartmouth's Health Professions Program, says of the award "My goal was to bring pre-health undergraduates into collaboration with Geisel medical students and other graduate students in health sciences to honor someone who embodies the ideals we hope to teach them. With his thirty years of service to the students of Dartmouth College, Lee Witters was the obvious choice."
The first recipient of the award is Dr. Jim O'Connell, founder and president of the Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program.
Both Professor Witters and Dr. O'Connell were honored by more than 150 students, faculty and community members at an event on April 28, 2016 at Collis Commonground.
