Suprene Mohamedzein

Ph.D. Candidate - Bezanilla Lab

Plant productivity depends on both mitochondrial respiration and photosynthesis, though plant mitochondrial respiration is an under-appreciated contributor to this process. My research is focused on understanding how plant mitochondria control and integrate their function with the rest of the cell, thus providing more insight into overall plant productivity. More specifically, I am focused on understanding the function of a set of evolutionarily conserved proteins called ATAD3 in regulating mitochondria function and morphology using the moss Physcomitrium patens as a model system.
