[more]Tom Kraft, Ph.D. student in the Ecology and Evolutionary Biology Graduate Program, has been awarded a National Geographic Young Explorers Grant (link) for his project: “Niche construction by Batek hunter-gatherers in Taman Negara, Peninsular Malaysia.”
[more]Maria Hindt, Ph.D. student in the Molecular and Cell Biology Graduate Program, has been awarded a Graduate Alumni Research Award for her work on iron acquisition and storage in plants. Her work in the Prof. Mary Lou Guerinot's lab focuses on increasing the ability of plants to take up iron. Iron is an essential micronutrient in the human diet. Link to the full article.

[more]Biology majors, Serena Lui '14 and Danny Wong '14, were two of twenty three members of the Class of 2014 who were inducted as junior members into Phi Beta Kappa. This honor was given to the Class of 2014 students with the highest culmulative grade point averages. Professor Elizabeth Smith, Chair of the Department of Biological Sciences, was also inducted into Phi Beta Kappa.
